A LITTLE ABOUT ME

A Media and Communications graduate with a 2:1 honors degree from Coventry University. I have developed a keen eye for detail within both my current and past positions which have allowed me to go above and beyond when assisting clients. A positive outlook and keenness to learn new skills and programs allows me to have a can do attitude towards almost everything I do. This has allowed me to not only excel at my current position but to take on tasks beyond my initial job description and surpass expectations while conducting these tasks.

Some of the software I have skills in using are, Photoshop, Premier Pro, Indesign, Lightroom and Audition. I have been able to build my skills up over my time at university and have used these skills to help enhance my design work.

I am also proficient in Microsoft office software such as Word, Excel and Outlook. At my current position I am often given the task to manage and update my teams Outlook systems. And have the responsibility of data entry of large quantities of data to our systems.

PROFESIONAL EXPERIENCE

Achievements and Experience

The following is a listing of my professional experiences. Each of these roles in the digital realm was unique and they all contributed to both my personal and professional development. I’ve also been involved in several side projects which have helped me progress along the way. If you’d like references or additional information, please get in touch.

Library Assistant at the National Police Library

January 2019- current

Currently employed by the College of Policing, as the Library assistant in the National Police Library. We provide research material to support the development of police officers and their training.

One of my main tasks on a daily basis is the management of the libraries email system, carefully categorizing emails and bringing them to the attention of my team when needed.

As part of my position there is a large amount data management using Excel and other systems to update and maintain our user database. I have become well highly proficient in the systems and procedures we have in place to manage these database.

A large portion is customer service based, replying to customer emails and phone calls in order to provide them with a high quality service. Along with other tasks associated with the day to day running of the library.

The team at the National Police library is small, making all of my work and effort feel like it is playing an important role in providing the Police officers across the UK with much needed resource to assist them in their training or professional development.

WAITRESS

August 2014-December 2018

I worked as part of a small team in order to give a fantastic customer service within the hospitality sector. My position within this team is mostly front of house, making the customer feel welcome, but also making desserts and hot drinks when required. For a short time prior to my University degree I was given responsibilities to open and close the restaurant before and after my shifts. During my final year working here I developed a website structure for the company to us as a means of advertising their menus online and to encourage engagement from customers. It is now still being used by the company today for this purpose.

PAST PROJECTS

Examples of some of my past work and projects.

These are a small selection of some of the projects I have been involved in the production of. Some are projects done as part of my media course.

AN AUTO ETHNOGRAPHIC STUDY INTO THE CREATION OF A ONLINE PERSONAL BRAND VIA SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLS SUCH AS INSTAGRAM

As part of my final project I created a personal brand associated with my photography. I was able to use my skills as a researcher and analyse techniques and data which provided me with some unique overall insight into the creation of online personal brands. For this project I was given a 1st for the clearly well structured and researched digital archive and the analytical essay that accompanied the final project piece.

Photo Exhibition

The Photo Club Society I am apart of hold a annual photo exhibition every year. The exhibition shows photos that portray the human body. I chose to show photographs portraying aspects of the human body. Such as a back, hand and a pendant to symbolize the heart. I attempted to show the different aspects of Marfan Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder.

ADVERTISING

Cultural and semiotic analysis of advertising

This project is the culmination of work done in a module at university. We were given the task to create a advertising campaign, featuring digital, print and audio visual aspects. This project was completed as a group. My part in this project was a mixture of graphic design and filming. The product that we were advertising was a sports/ energy drink. The above photo is the graphics used to over lay on a image of a persons face. The final image was used as our groups print advert and we also used it to demonstrate how it would work in a digital advertising concept. Due to the fact that we suggested that it could be used as a filter in social media platforms such as Snapchat or Instagram. The link below will take you to our groups television advertisement, which I helped to film. I also added the music to the final version of the advert.

WEBSITE BUILDING

The Windmill Inn, Restaurant.

I designed a website, that could be used by a restaurant company in order to put their information online and make it easily accessible to the customers. I maintain the website, adding and changing the menus and the photographs seen on the website to keep to to date with the new menus.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Emma Lawson's Photography blog/portfolio.

This is a collection of some of my personal photography projects. Taken in a variety of styles in an attempt to convey different stories and narrative ideas.

A STUDY INTO ONLINE SHOPPING

Group project looking at the evolution of online shopping and the introduction of Amazon Go.

This website was part of our 241MC module, it is primarily a research based module. We were expected to use different research techniques on a chosen topic. Our group chose to look at the evolution of online shopping and the creation of automated shops like Amazon Go.
During this module I designed the layout and overall setup of the website, along with filming and editing the first video and editing the podcast.

WITHIN THESE WALLS 4

Project Subtitle

I took three photos for this exhibition. Two of the photos showed two women’s faces with negative words written on their faces. The purpose of these photos was to show the anxiety that people feel about their self perception and what the impact these negative words can have. Wether the words come from within us or from external elements they still have the power to contain us and constrict us from achieving what it is we want to achieve in life. The Bound Hands is meant to reflex this impact.
